Mexico plans new filming incentives

Projects choosing to film in Mexico could be eligible for a rebate of up to 17.5% as of June 1st 2010.

Under the current plans, international film productions spending at least 70 million pesos (around USD5.5 million) in production costs, or spending 20 million pesos (around USD1.5 million) in post-production costs, will be able to claim back up to 7.5% of their spend.

Combined with a VAT return, the maximum incentive available to international feature films will be capped at 17.5%.

Assuming the scheme becomes a reality in June, the incentive fund will be worth USD20 million for the rest of 2010 and this figure will be doubled for 2011.
