The Walking Dead to use Raleigh Studios Georgia for third season

Hit zombie TV drama The Walking Dead will film at Raleigh Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. Location filming will focus on nearby Senoia, which will feature as a town walled off from the zombie outbreak.

Mike Riley is a Location Manager on the shoot and spoke to local outlet The Citizen: “The storyline runs from a rural area to an urban area and back to a rural area. We were here last year and much of the show was shot in this area. Senoia will be a major set for next season. This is long-term; we’ll be here until November. [In the story] the town is walled off. Inside the wall is a safe zone and a benevolent dictator runs the town.

“The feedback so far is positive. The city’s day-to-day business traffic has to be accommodated. I think we had an economic impact last season and I think there will be a positive impact with us being here longer this year.”

We were here last year and much of the show was shot in this area. Senoia will be a major set for next season. This is long-term; we’ll be here until November.

The Walking Dead has been a huge hit and has helped raise Georgia’s profile as a filming location. Filmmakers can access a 20% tax credit, with further incentives available for displaying the state logo in end credits sequences.

Gale Anne Hurd, an executive producer on the show, recently commented that competitive incentives in places like Georgia are why she hasn’t filmed in Los Angeles for nearly ten years.
