Game of Thrones to film scenes on location in Morocco for third season

HBO’s hit fantasy drama Game of Thrones will film scenes in Morocco for its third season. The country featured in the show’s pilot episode but was not used again, with Malta and then Croatia used for warmer climes in the two seasons to date.

The cable channel states: “The production continues to be based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and will shoot in Belfast and other Northern Ireland locations. Additionally, it is confirmed that Game of Thrones will return once again to Croatia and Iceland for additional production. This season, a fourth location, Morocco, will be added to the schedule.”

This season, a fourth location, Morocco, will be added to the schedule.

Morocco’s desert landscapes have been popular filming locations for decades and the country is a favourite of many top directors like Ridley Scott. It’s routinely used to double for less film-friendly parts of the Middle East especially.
