Puerto Rico expands filming incentives

Puerto Rico has officially expanded its location filming incentive package with a 20% tax credit for non-resident talent, as well as measures to encourage infrastructure development. Positioned in the north-eastern Caribbean, Puerto Rico is an unincorporated US territory.

Mariella Pérez is Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Film Commission and spoke to local outlet News is my Business: “Puerto Rico had never managed to have such a complete tax incentive package that will position the island as a world-class film centre.

We’re seeing results, with major productions that are driving the island’s entire film industry.

“It not only provides the best incentives, but also offers the best creative and technical resources and best locations. We’re seeing results, with major productions that are driving the island’s entire film industry.”

The tax credit amendment comes in addition to Puerto Rico’s existing 40% incentive on resident wages that was launched in early 2011. Nearly USD80 million of investment has come into the territory since this programme was made available.
