Yonkers among New York State cities seeking film industry growth

Yonkers in New York State’s Westchester County wants to expand its film industry and sees itself as an alternative to New York City just 20 minutes away. The film office in Yonkers has undergone a makeover and authorities are chasing a film-friendlier status.

The city is aiming to reverse several years of filmmaking decline by removing location fees and launching a new website. Authorities want to capitalise on production costs that undercut New York City.

New York recently improved its state-wide filming incentive programme to encourage more post-production work outside New York City. Albany in central New York recently launched a new campaign promoting its filming history and studio appeal.
