Keanu Reeves’ samurai drama 47 Ronin doubles Scottish Isle of Skye for Japan

Keanu Reeves’ upcoming historic samurai feature 47 Ronin has filmed on location on the Isle of Skye in western Scotland. The region doubled for Japan and shooting focussed on aerial shots of samurai on horseback.

Ali Jones is the project’s Location Manager and spoke to STV: “It’s really the final bit of shooting for the film. We were getting shots with the samurai riding their horses and the scenery added something extra to the shots. The weather was kind to us and everyone involved had a great time.”

The film has been based at Shepperton Studios near London and has also shot at Raleigh Studios Budapest. Reeves himself wasn’t present in Skye, suggesting a second-unit shoot. Ridley Scott’s Prometheus was the last high-profile visitor to the isle, filming scenes at an ancient rock formation known as the Old Man of Storr.
