Disney clears hurdle for major Los Angeles film studio expansion plan

Disney has won approval for a plan to expand its Los Angeles film studio facilities at the Golden Oak Ranch in Santa Clarita. The regional planning commission approved the plan that is set to involve the development of 12 sound stages.

Facilities at the Disney/ABC Studios at the Ranch are set to include production offices and bungalows alongside the studio space and is expected to generate over USD500 million of revenue for the area each year. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors will vote on the project in the next few months.

“This project is the best chance to position the Santa Clarita Valley as a leader in the media entertainment industry,” said Jonas Peterson, outgoing CEO and President of the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation, to the Santa Clarita Valley Signal.

Universal Studios is also planning a major expansion to its Los Angeles facilities. Its USD1.6 billion Evolution Plan includes new sound stages and sets, as well as hotels and infrastructure improvements.
