Dubai Film and TV Commission hosts advertising and film finance workshop

Dubai Film and TV Commission has hosted a two-day workshop on advertising and film finance for media professionals based in the United Arab Emirates. Held in Dubai Studio City, the workshop was designed to help local producers boost their businesses.

The workshop involved Philip Alberstat, an expert on branded content and film finance, who has experience as a producer and as a legal advisor. Subjects under discussion at the workshop included the use of content in advertising and branding, and also financing models such as co-productions, incentives and legal issues.

“This innovative workshop provides valuable insights on the different business models applied in today’s competitive and dynamic media industry,” said Dubai Film & TV Commission Chairman Jamal Al Sharif: “Such workshops help develop the local media production industry and we look forward to holding similar master classes in the future, to foster the growth of the vibrant media community that now resides here in Dubai.”

Added Alberstat: “In a world where the consumer is in control the use of content is an important tool for brands to solve their business challenges. These workshops will give content producers in the Gulf region valuable insights in how to produce, finance and distribute their projects with brand partners.”

A recent white paper recommended that Dubai follow the example of Abu Dhabi and launch a formal filming incentive to boost the city’s appeal as an international production centre. Dubai Studio City already offers producers three sound stages, a back lot and water tank facilities.
