Trigger Happy and LS Productions film on Isle of Skye for KAYAK commercial

As part of a co-production between Trigger Happy and LS Productions, based in Germany and Scotland respectively, these companies took to the Isle of Skye to film a brand new commercial for the travel search engine KAYAK. The production was filmed over a four day period with a Red Dragon camera, while drones were used to capture aerial footage.

The commercial depicts a number of people as they try to traverse an open field in the hope of catching sheep, which are labelled with various deals that can be found through KAYAK. Professional animal handlers were present to ensure the wellbeing of the sheep during filming.

Location Manager Amy Morement explains: “there are a number of sensitive habitats, so extra location management was required to monitor the volume of sheep and crew, being careful not to disturb the ground too much or have too many animals, people or equipment concentrated to one area.”

Head of Production at LS, Sarah Drummond adds: “with our contacts and knowledge of the local area we were able to find practical options for accommodating our cast, clients and 100-strong crew. When self-catered cottages were used, we supplied our clients with a lovely little care package of toiletries, cosy towels and – most importantly – caffeine!”

The commercial was shot by Director of Photography Bjorn Charpentier who won both the Gold Lion in Film Craft for Best Cinematographer and the Grand Prix for Film/Television at the 2015 Cannes Lions.

While the UK’s incentive programme doesn’t currently extend to commercials, the country is still a popular site for filming due to the variety of locations on offer. The Isle of Skye itself recently featured in the 2015 film adaptation of Macbeth, and will soon reappear with the release of Steven Spielberg’s The BFG.
