Under the administration of ScreenWest, Western Australia will be getting its own regional film fund in the form of AUD15 million (USD12 million). The Western Australian Regional Film Fund will be available from July 1st 2016 and will only be distributed to productions that incur a yet to be specified minimum spend.
Malta’s Tourism Minister, Zammit Lewis has announced a brand new film incentive programme for regional productions which will provide tax credits of up to 150% of an eligible spend. The incentive has been designed to stimulate the local film industry in the wake of immense interest from international productions such as Assassin’s Creed starring Michael Fassbender.
The latest film directed by Sean Penn, The Last Face will compete at the Cannes Film Festival 2016 for the Palme d’Or award. Starring Charlize Theron, Javier Bardem and Jean Reno, this will be Penn’s first directorial effort since 2007s Into the Wild which was nominated for two Academy Awards.
ARRI, in collaboration with the Producers Guild of America, Association des Producteurs de Cinéma and Film France, are hosting a drinks reception to coincide with the Cannes Film Festival 2016. The reception will take place May 14th from 5pm to 7pm at the International Village, with entrance admitted only to those who have received an invitation.
Hands of Stone, a biographical boxing drama about the life of Roberto Durán was shot on location in Panama. Directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz and starring Robert De Niro and Édgar Ramírez, the film will premiere May 16th at the Cannes Film Festival 2016 in the Grand Théâtre Lumière.
Iceland could see an improved film incentive programme if a government proposal proves successful. The proposal in question seeks to increase the current 20% rebate to 25%, making the incentive far more competitive on the global filming market. To be put into law, the proposal will have to be approved at two separate debates but has already been successful in the first round.
Woody Allen’s latest film Café Society, which is set to open this year’s Cannes Film Festival was shot on location in New York City, Pasadena and Los Feliz. The film will stand as Allen’s fourteenth entry into the ‘Out of Competition’ category and stars Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Blake Lively and Steve Carell.
Comedian Kevin Hart and sports personality David Beckham feature in Sonny London and Rival School Pictures’ latest commercial for H&M. The commercial was shot on location in New York as Hart attempts to imitate Beckham’s lifestyle for an upcoming film as hilarious results ensue.
