Game of Thrones returns to Linen Mill Studios in Northern Ireland

HBO’s hit fantasy TV show Game of Thrones is returning to Linen Mill Studios in Northern Ireland for its third series. Although based at Paint Hall Studios in Belfast, the show also uses 75,000 square feet of studio space near Banbridge, south of the capital.

The former linen processing plant only ceased its original function in 2008, but its location, size and more than 20 acres of land meant a second life as a film and TV studio was a viable option.

The Game of Thrones team is using a little over half our studio space at the moment, as well as building sets on our back lot.

We have the advantage of offering a very large construction workshop and while the shoot’s based in Belfast, Paint Hall Studios doesn’t have a back lot.”

Game of Thrones also filmed scenes from its second season on location in Iceland and Dubrovnik in Croatia.
