Nottingham signs Film Friendly Charter after Dark Knight Rises UK shoot

Nottingham has signed up to Creative England’s Film Friendly Charter a year after hosting scenes for The Dark Knight Rises. Wollaton Hall was built during the era of Elizabeth I and features as the rebuilt Wayne Manor in the new film that opens in late July 2012.

Warner Brothers spent GBP100,000 making improvements to Wollaton for their 2011 shoot, as well as paying a location filming fee. Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham City Council are the specific organisations signing up to Creative England’s Charter, which commits them to lending a certain level of support to future filming productions.

Jon Collins is a Nottingham City Councillor: “The agreement ensures that local people, services and facilities will benefit, filmmakers will have a good experience while they are here and it allows us to build on our reputation as a location and gain from the positive publicity that films can generate.”

The agreement ensures that local people, services and facilities will benefit, [and] filmmakers will have a good experience while they are here.

Stephen Badham is Senior Production Liaison Manager at Creative England: “[The Film Friendly Partnerships] scheme shows filmmakers they will be dealt with in an efficient and friendly manner when working with Film Friendly Partnership local authorities such as Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, which can make the reason to film in that area so much stronger.”

The Dark Knight Rises filmed around the world throughout 2011 in countries including England, Scotland and India, while Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania doubled for Gotham City.
