Linen Mill Film & TV Studios, south of Belfast in Northern Ireland, has announced its expansion with a refurbished 5,000-square-foot stage set to open in the next few weeks. The studio has been open for less than a year but is hosting part of the Game of Thrones shoot.
Game of Thrones is based in Belfast, but is also using Linen Mill’s 40,000-square-foot main stage, IFTN reports. The new studio was a linen processing plant until 2008.
We have the advantage of offering a very large construction workshop and while the shoot’s based in Belfast, Paint Hall Studios doesn’t have a back lot.

Robert Wilson is Director of Development at Linen Mill Studios and recently commented: “The Game of Thrones team is using a little over half our studio space at the moment, as well as building sets on our back lot. We have the advantage of offering a very large construction workshop and while the shoot’s based in Belfast, Paint Hall Studios doesn’t have a back lot.”
Frank Doelger, an Executive Producer on Game of Thrones, recently revealed that the show’s future in Northern Ireland could be secured if the UK Government comes through on its pledge to launch a TV tax credit.
