Colorado filming incentive helps secure first dramatic TV series for 20 years

Colorado’s filming incentive has helped secure the mid-western state’s first dramatic TV series in more than 20 years. Hallmark Channel is to film period drama When Calls the Heart on location in Telluride in the next few weeks.

“We are excited to immerse When Calls the Heart against the rich backdrop of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, providing unrivalled production value to a story that takes place in the North American west one hundred years ago,” said Brad Krevoy, CEO of Motion Picture Corporation of America and an executive producer on the new series.

“While we can’t compete side-by-side with other state incentive programmes, we continue to see the benefits of our modest incentive package coupled with Colorado’s talented workforce and extraordinary scenery,” added Donald Zuckerman, Commissioner at the Colorado Office of Film, Television and Media.

Colorado offers a 20% cash rebate as a filming incentive and hosted scenes from Johnny Depp’s big-budget production The Lone Ranger in mid-2012. When Calls the Heart tells the story of a young teacher taking her first job in a remote 19th Century mining town.
