Wondros films racing vehicles on location in Chile for engine oil brand Mobil 1

Wondros filmed different racing vehicles on location in Chile for a new commercial for engine oil brand Mobil 1. Set in the US and Russia, Our Normal promotes the brand’s qualities by following racing drivers in wildly contrasting environments.

The presence of both snow and desert within accessible distances in Chile was a major reason for the production heading to the South American country.

“Chile is perfect for this because, even in winter, with snow in the south, you have sun and warm weather in the North,” explains Remi Noiriel of servicing company Jacaranda Films.

“The snow was shot about 60 km from Santiago on the way to Valle Nevado and we shot the desert in San Pedro de Atacama, about 1,600 km from Santiago," Noiriel adds: "Santiago is a great filming area as you have the mountains very close to the city and the ocean not far away.”

Chile’s Atacama Desert is one of the country’s most popular filming locations and is frequently used for commercial shoots built around human endurance in wilderness parts of the world. MPC recently filmed there for a campaign for online trading platform IG, using the volcanic landscape as a metaphor for a daring mental attitude.

Jaguar was responsible for one of the region’s highest-profile shoots of recent years. The brand used the Atacama Desert as the setting for short commercial film Desire, featuring Homeland star Damian Lewis as a mysterious courier rescuing a young woman from her jealous gangster boyfriend.
