Kenneth Branagh films Cinderella in southern England and at Pinewood Studios

Kenneth Branagh’s new live-action version of Disney’s Cinderella filmed at Pinewood Studios near London and also on location across southern England. The film is the latest live-action fairytale feature from Disney and follows the success of Maleficent, which also filmed in the UK.

Cinderella’s locations included Windsor Great Park between Berkshire and Surrey for forest scenes. Disney was a repeat visitor to the park, having also filmed there for its musical fantasy Into the Woods.

Interiors of the Prince’s palace in Cinderella were filmed on location at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich and exteriors were shot at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.

“Creative England’s Production Services team supported Cinderella by assisting with applications for filming on a number of medieval bridges in West Sussex,” says Emma Chappel, Senior Production Services Manager at Creative England.

“Our Production Liaison and Partnerships Manager for the South, Rebecca Snook, used our Film Friendly Partnership to find ownership deals and put the production in contact with local bridge owners.”

Disney has a strong presence in the UK, filming the new Stars Wars and Avengers movies in London through its Lucasfilm and Marvel brands. The company also committed to a TV series shoot with Galavant in western England, and recently confirmed its children’s series The Chronicles of Evermoor will film near Liverpool.

The UK government recently expanded its filming incentive programme and lowered the production spend necessary to access tax credit support. A TV tax credit launched in 2013 has had a major impact on the UK’s international appeal as a filming location.
