Doctor Strange has begun filming in Nepal

Doctor Strange, the latest film to be produced by Marvel Studios since Ant-Man was released July 8th 2015 has begun filming on location in Nepal, after which production will move to London to film in Pinewood Studios.

Directed by Scott Derrickson, the film will star Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular role alongside Tilda Swindon.  After being injured in a car crash, Doctor Strange will search for a way to heal himself so that he may return to his profession, eventually finding more than he bargained for in the supernatural.

Films previously produced by Marvel Studios have travelled the globe, showcasing numerous locations with each production. Thor: The Dark World was filmed on location in Iceland and Avengers: Age of Ultron was shot in South Korea.

Marvel Studios is already an established client of Pinewood Studios, with Captain America: Civil War having filmed there recently. Pinewood has also housed other big budget productions including Spectre and the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

There are currently no incentives in place for any films, television shows or commercials being shot in Nepal. Despite this lack of funding the recent survival film Everest was shot on location in the country.

In the past, the Isle of Man has managed to double for Nepal for the filming of Camera Trap. The island currently offers a negotiable incentive through the Isle of Man Development Fund which has GBP25 million to be allocated for eligible productions. Similarly, the documentary The Summit which depicts the same true story that Everest is based on was filmed on location in Switzerland, where public funding is available through co-productions with Swiss companies.
