The Californian city of San Francisco may be best known for iconic landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge and the infamous island prison of Alcatraz, but these are really only scratching the surface of what’s on offer.
HBO’s TV movie Hemingway & Gellhorn was filmed in the city and the surrounding countryside, but doubled its locations for nearly a dozen countries around the world in an impressive showcase of its eclectic architectural history and wider filming potential. Other productions in recent years have included Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Milk and On The Road.
Close to Los Angeles and boasting world-class filming resources and infrastructure, San Francisco offers half a dozen different incentive schemes tailored for a range of productions. Local incentives can also be combined with the California Film & Television Tax Credit Programme, which has an annual fund of USD100 million.
