Filming in South America - best countries logistically?

Hi,

I wondered if anyone had any recommendations for countries that are easier to film in?  I've looked into Brazil and there are a lot of high costs involved with hiring production service companies to facilitate visas/permits etc, and also customs brokers required for brining in equipment.  Does anyone have any recommendations for countries that perhaps don't require filming visas/permits/customs brokers, or are much lower cost?

Many thanks.

Marie

Hi Marie

Uruguay is a great country to shoot in in South Americe.
Long working days, efficient crews, and great infrastructure, and the production costs are much lower than many other SOuth American countries.
Again, it all depends on what you want to shoot.

We are a service network covering all of South America, and we therefore have a great knowledge on where you can get the best production value for your project and budget.

Feel free to give me a call in case you may have any questions, or drop me a mail

Hi Marie.
Colombia may be worth you looking into, we have attractive film rates, broad range of locations and climates and a surprisingly multi ethnic cast pool. The authorities and film commission are always keen to lend a hand and are very film friendly.
We have been servicing the international film industry for over 10 years now, so take a look at our reel and let me know if there is anything we can do for you.

Hi Marie,

I´m Producer @ Mamma Team in Spain, but Im Argentinean and started my Service Producing career in Buenos Aires, and now I have been producing jobs in Spain for the last 8 years. Mamma Team has strong relationships with companies in Chile, Argentina & Uruguay and we have shot there several times for our usual clients here. I would be happy to help you, and suggest which country would suit more, but it will depend on the needs and nature of your project. Please feel free to send me the info, and I will give you my honest feedback and the possibility to quote in the 3 of them if necessary. In terms of customs, I know and have more experience with our Argentinean Custom broker that has been dealing with the Film Industries for years.

best,

Dear Marie,
I know you asked for a South American country but if you're still on the lookout, it doesn't get any better than Mexico.  Our country has been hosting international productions (small, big and huge) since the beginning of the film industry.  We are home to one of the best crews in the world, people who have trained with the best filmmakers (Houston, Peckinpah, Cameron, Spielberg, Stone, etc); we are famous for our variety on locations (we are the 4th biodiversity in the world); we have film studios, independent sound stages, film labs, film stock and the latest in equipment.  We are a one-stop shop.  Plus, we offer fiscal and financial incentives that could give a production up to 17.5% in cash rebates.
I suggest you check our website for more information www.comefilm.gob.mx
We have a version in English and photo albums of locations in Flickr, as well as presence in Facebook and Twitter.
For further details, do no hesitate to contact us at locations.mexico@imcine.gob.mx

Hi Marie, as you may imagine from all the responses Uruguay is an excellent option, by far the best cost-effective choice. We receive all kind of international projects all year around.
Let me know what are you exactly looking for and what kind of project would it be due to help you with answers.
I am an independent producer and can find the best solution within Uruguay.
I’ll be waiting to receive your feedback.
Best wishes from Montevideo,
