Inis Mór, the largest of Ireland’s Aran Islands, has won the EUFCN Location Award for the seventh edition. This award honours the location for its use in Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin, starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. The award was accepted by Screen Ireland’s Michael Byrne on Sunday 18 February at the EUFCN Location Award Ceremony during the 2024 European Film Market in Berlin.

British Film Commission and the Italian Film Commissions sign Memorandum of Understanding at Cannes’s 75th Anniversary

The British Film Commission (BFC) and the Italian Film Commissions (IFC) have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The UK and Italy are both recognised as leading production centres for film and high-end TV production, and this agreement is designed to enhance collaboration between their respective screen industries. The MoU was signed today at The Italian Pavilion, Le Majestic Hotel 10, Cannes.

Russia has embarked on a mission to shoot a new film at the International Space Station. Actor Yulia Peresild, director Klim Shipenko and veteran cosmonaut Anto Shkaplerov were sent into space for 12 days to make the world’s first feature-length movie in orbit, which seems likely to be finalised before a similar Hollywood project coordinated by Tom Cruise, NASA, and Elon Musk’s SpaceX.

Film and HETV Production Spend in the UK Tops GBP2.84 billion in 2020

The British Film Institute's Official 2020 statistics provide a positive outlook for the industry. Despite a nearly six month pause in physical production, the total UK spend on High end TV and film is down just  21% on 2019. Nearly GBP1.19 out of the total GBP2.34 spend was recorded in the final quarter, signalling significant recovery and a resilience of the UK industry.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Perry Mason amongst winners at 7th Annual LMGI Awards

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and The Last Black Man in San Francisco are motion picture winners at the 7th annual LMGI Awards. Perry Mason, Killing Eve, Little America and ZeroZeroZero won in the  Television categories. Mask of the Zodiac was awarded outstanding locations in a commercial, and Toscana Film Commission were recognised for the support given to productions.
