Seminar calls for more Asian incentives
Bill Bowling, former worldwide locations executive for Warner Bros, has urged Asian film commissions and government officials to step up attempts to offer attractive film incentives.
Speaking at The Movement of the Film Industry, from Hollywood to Asia seminar during the Asia-Pacific Film Policy Forum at BIFFCOM, Bowling made it clear that if Asia wanted to draw big Hollywood productions, greater emphasis needed to be put on cost offsets.
The first Asia Pacific Film Policy was well attended. 37 representatives from 14 countries made a joint declaration to keep holding the event and to act on points discussed.
It was agreed that developing tax incentives needed to be a priority, and countries such as China and Vitenam announced plans to follow Japan's lead in establishing a centralised film commission.
