Clash of the Titans shoots in Tenerife
The remake of 1981 classic Clash of the Titans, due to be released in 2010, has used the Island of Tenerife to film nearly 20% of its scenes.
Turismo de Tenerife invited the film's location manager, Robin Higgs, to the island late in 2008 for a recce. Higgs, who has worked on films such as Pirates of the Caribbean and the Harry Potter series, was impressed by the natural scenery he found there which resulted in director Louis Leterrier taking a 350-strong production team to the island earlier this year.
About one hundred locals were hired to work on the Warner Bros film and it is estimated that EUR2.5 million was generated for the local ecomomy. Local company Sur-Film was also used to service the production.
The stunning volcanic Teide National Park was used as a key location site. Additional locations included the Icod de los Vinos, Buenavista del Norte and Guía de Isora, as well as many of the island’s other mountainous areas.
Tenerife's head of tourism, José Manuel Bermúdez, commented:
"Our diverse landscape, topography and balmy climate make it an ideal choice, particularly for many of the adventure scenes."
