Pinewood-Hamburg Joint Venture aims to benefit UK and German industries
The UK production industry could find it has the benefit of “more options” as a result of the recently-announced Joint Venture between Pinewood Studios and Studio Hamburg. Through the venture, UK crews will be more involved with European productions.
Mark Hamilton, Communications and Public Affairs Manager for the Pinewood Studios Group, said: “It is a good way to leverage the Pinewood brand. Germany has good fiscal benefits, good local infrastructure and a growing economy - it has many similarities with the UK.”
Studio Hamburg is among the leaders in the European audio-visual industry and Pinewood Studios Group is keen to associate itself with an organisation based in the heart of European filmmaking. In addition, projects that would have been heading to Germany anyway will be able to benefit from the experience of UK personnel, while increasing the likelihood of British post-production facilities being used by European crews.
Robin Houcken, Managing Director of Studio Hamburg, said: “With the joint venture the competitive landscape in Germany has been extended by two of the leading companies in this market in Europe joining forces. With Pinewood’s access to international clients and Studio Berlin’s high quality facilities new film projects will have a new competitive studio option in mainland Europe.”
