Proposed Florida incentive would prioritise conservative content
Florida could soon introduce a tax credit provision that prioritises film and television production that is seen as promoting western conservative family values. This would favour productions that do not contain content such as sex, bad language or smoking.
If the provision is approved as part of Florida’s USD75 million package to boost production in the state, projects deemed to be promoting western conservative values could qualify for a tax credit of up to 5%.
The development has caused controversy, however, with equal rights advocator Florida Together claiming the provision would penalise films and television shows featuring gay characters.
