French industry around Paris saw 5% film-related job growth in 2008

There was a 5% increase in permanent new jobs in the audiovisual industry in and around Paris through the course of 2008, according to official figures from Audiens and the Ile de France Film Commission (IDF).

In addition to the new jobs, there were 20,000 people working in permanent positions in the area. There were also 122,000 people in part-time employment, although only about 25% of these were paid a regular wage.

The IDF has hopes that last year’s new tax credit scheme for foreign productions will have contributed to a further improvement for production during 2009. This could make up for domestic productions falling by more than a quarter on 2008.
