The Dark Knight Rises films scenes in Jodhpur in India

Jodhpur, in Rajasthan in north-west India, has been used for a couple of days of filming for The Dark Knight Rises. Shooting focussed on the 500-year-old Mehrangarh Fort, which rises 120 metres above the city and has been used before by brands including Visa and Pepsi.

Rajasthan is a popular filming region. American Express filmed a commercial recently in the town of Jaipur with talk show star Conan O’Brien, while Dulux took advantage of Jodhpur’s famous blue-painted homes for its own commercial.

Filming focussed on the 500-year-old Mehrangarh Fort, which rises 120 metres above the town and has been used before by brands including Visa and Pepsi.

Karni Jasol, Director at the fort, said: "Mehrangarh Jodhpur is a popular site for filming due to its grandeur and stunning setting - it is also one of best managed forts in India. Film companies are provided professional one-point service, which makes the production experience at Mehrangarh Jodhpur a joy."

The Dark Knight Rises will also be filming scenes in Pittsburgh. The city is expected to stand in for Gotham, rather than Chicago which was used in Christopher Nolan’s previous two Batman films.

Dawn Keezer, Director of the Pittsburgh Film Office, said: “We have a great film history, from 1914's Perils of Pauline to 1968's Night of the Living Dead, and also Silence of the Lambs and The Deer Hunter. Now we're brought into this century with one of the most recognisable franchises.”
