Wimbledon Film & Television Studios in London builds quota of companies

Wimbledon Film & Television Studios in south-west London has attracted three more companies to its lot. Formerly known as Merton Studios, the facility has been re-branded with the intention of establishing it as another major commercial entity in the capital.

The studios offer four stages with each providing up to 8,000 square feet of floor space, but among its central appeals are the more than 50 permanent sets. Filmmakers have access to everything from prisons and hospitals to courtrooms and an exterior street. In addition, the studio is pushing 3D production.

Piers Read, Managing Director of Wimbledon Film & Television Studios, said: “We have a training facility run by Pro3D, who are a partner in the studio operation. Their involvement is fantastic to have and essentially future-proofs the studios. We have an HD or 3D studio gallery and will be capable of delivering pure 3D for any studio production.”

Decode, a provider of 3D stereoscopic equipment, is one of the three latest companies due to open an office. Sean Reilly, a Producer also involved with Business Development for Decode, said: “It makes good sense for us to open an office there because they’re basically creating a 3D hub. We then become the main provider of stereoscopic equipment at the studio. It’s a great location and they have very good free-standing permanent sets."
