Fireflies West cycling tour in California to benefit leukaemia research

Friday sees the start of the 4th annual Fireflies West cycling tour in California to raise money for leukaemia research. Advertising industry professionals will be taking part in the 550-mile, six-day ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

Riders will start at the San Francisco offices of Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, and take coastal roads to The Mill in LA.

The event is a companion to the European ride, which runs for eight days and extends between Geneva and Cannes. This has been running annually since 2001 and has raised almost USD2 million for the Leuka Charity. The money helps support leukaemia research and treatment at London’s Hammersmith Hospital. Southern California’s City of Hope Hospital will benefit from the US ride.

The Fireflies are an inspiring mix of ad industry competitors who ride together for a wonderful cause and we are honoured to do our part.

Jake Scott, of RSA, and Bryan Farhy, of Believe Media, are founding members of the US event and will take part in the ride. Others include Phillip Detchmendy, of commercial production company Alive and Well, and Mick Ebeling of The Ebeling Group. Ebeling and Farhy have both lost parents to leukaemia.
