We’ve been talking to several Location Managers this week to get their expert views on filming in Hawaii, Cape Town and Buenos Aires. The success of Dolphin Tale in the US has lifted Florida’s filmmaking profile and India has hosted the latest commercial from VW. There’s more Bond news too, with the production heading to Scotland in 2012.
Location Manager Robert Bentley gave us the lowdown on shooting in Cape Town, with South Africa remaining as popular as ever for projects originating from around the world. Out in the Pacific Ocean Location Manager KK Greenlee offered some tips for filming on the Hawaiian island of Kaua’i. It doesn’t have a high international profile but has plenty to offer. We also talked to Location Manager Eugenia D’Alessio about filming in growing commercial favourite Buenos Aires.
India remains a pretty popular filming location in the commercials industry, despite the common complaint that location permitting can be a long and drawn-out process.
The main advertising news this week is that VW has filmed its latest spot, Flyboy, in Bangalore. India remains a pretty popular filming location in the commercials industry, despite the common complaint that location permitting can be a long and drawn-out process. The spot itself is fun, although the link to VW is tenuous and viewer brand recall might suffer as a result.
The Bond franchise will be going to western Scotland in the winter of 2012 to film scenes at Duntrune Castle near Lochgilphead in Argyll. The owners think it may be being used as Bond’s ancestral home and it seems a solid choice. It’s historic and scenic, as well as being relatively isolated, which will make it easier for any stunt sequences.
Titanic: Blood & Steel is a healthy step towards helping Ireland compete with the industry north of the border in Belfast, which is hosting the international hit Game of Thrones.
Dublin has attracted attention this week for hosting new TV miniseries Titanic: Blood & Steel. It’s the latest glossy TV drama to come to eastern Ireland, although the region will have been disappointed that Camelot was cancelled after a single season. Still, the Titanic project is a healthy step towards competing with the industry north of the border in Belfast, which is hosting the international hit Game of Thrones. Ireland is clearly being viewed as a strong choice for studio productions.
Finally this week, we’ve previewed the California On-Location Awards (COLAs). Location professionals from the Golden State will gather in Los Angeles this Sunday (16th October) to honour the best jobs of the past year. Best of luck to the nominees!
