HBO films Armando Iannucci comic satire Veep on location in Maryland

Satirical comedy has come to film on location in Maryland. Veep focuses on a senator who becomes Vice-President of the United States. It’s directed by satirist Armando Iannucci. The Maryland economy could make USD25 million from the shoot and it may create more than 2,000 local jobs.

Martin O’Malley is Governor of Maryland and said in a statement: “Maryland is excited to welcome HBO and the Veep team back to our state [after filming the pilot in February]. This project will not only bring new jobs to Maryland, but will also benefit local businesses that will serve the cast and crew during production.”

The state offers a 25% filming incentive to qualifying productions and recently increased the size of its annual film fund from USD1 million to USD7.5 million. Maryland has something of a track record with HBO. It hosted groundbreaking crime series The Wire for five seasons and most recently hosted scenes for Game Change, a TV movie looking at the Republican party’s doomed general election bid in 2008.
