Film London Portal will keep focus on location filming during 2012 Olympics

Film London is developing a permanent, dedicated Portal to streamline the location filming process in the English capital. The organisation wants to make sure London maintains its profile as an international filming location in 2012 when the Olympics will get most of the attention.

The Film London Portal will enable producers and filmmakers to easily arrange a London shoot even if they have no existing knowledge of the city. For added flexibility the resource will be available on smartphones and other web-enabled handheld devices.

We have already successfully assisted a number of big productions shooting in the capital in 2012, ensuring their schedule works around the Games.

Adrian Wootton is Chief Executive of Film London and the British Film Commission: “We have already successfully assisted a number of big productions shooting in the capital in 2012, ensuring their schedule works around the Games.

“The Portal is also great news for the industry. Although part of our Olympic strategy, it will leave a fantastic legacy for the city and is the obvious next step for us in simplifying the process to shoot in the capital.”

While the Film London Portal will do more to specifically promote location filming in the capital, the UK’s tax relief scheme was recently granted an extension through to the end of 2015. This frees up around GBP100 million a year in location filming incentives.
