AFCI to run seminar at Berlinale on co-operative film production

The Location Guide’s Publishing Director, Jean-Frédéric Garcia, will be moderating an AFCI seminar at Berlinale on the importance of co-operative film production. Taking place on 11th February 2012, the seminar will focus on global filming incentives, filming locations and co-production treaties.

Kevin Clark is Director of Operations and Membership for the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI), which is organising the seminar: “For film projects and Producers it’s about doing the research, talking to the film commissions and finding out how their local relationships can give you more ‘value adds’ and enhancements that improve your budget, structure you for incentive qualification, provide you with more filming options and give you on-the-ground support.

“Commissions recognise they too have to initiate change in how they work by taking a critical look at their relationships on the ground and how they can expand upon and develop the services, advice and support they offer to the production community.”

Jean-Frédéric Garcia commented: “I’m very happy to be moderating the AFCI’s co-operative production seminar at this year’s Berlinale. The importance of regional filming incentives, local relationships and the efforts of commissions cannot be underestimated and the AFCI does a great job exploring these issues with events like this.”

Specific subjects under discussion will be how productions can benefit from local filming incentives when on location and how both regional relationships and film commissions can help productions. The seminar will include industry speakers and contributors from countries including Germany, Brazil and Jordan, while the AFCI will be represented by members from countries including Taiwan, France and Canada.
