The Wolverine to film on location in Japan

X-Men follow-up The Wolverine will film on location in Japan, Fox head Tom Rothman has confirmed. The story for the stand-alone feature is based on one of Wolverine’s classic Japan-set plotlines from the character’s comic book series, so a location shoot may make it feel more authentic.

It was recently announced that the film would be based at Fox Studios Sydney from August this year, following a direct AUD12.8 million incentive payment from the Australian Government.

We’re doing the stage work in Australia. The location work will be in Japan. It's set in Japan.

Rothman confirmed the news to MTV: “We’re doing the stage work in Australia. The location work will be in Japan. It's set in Japan. A great number of Japanese actors will be in it and it's based on the very famous run of the comics.”

The production is bound to be a boost for both Japan and Australia. In comments to Australian Associated Press, high-profile producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura recently agreed that Australia needs more generous filming incentive programmes if it’s to attract more international productions.
