Media hub designed to boost international location filming in Cork in Ireland

Two separate film organisations have joined forces in a bid to boost the local industry in County Cork, southern Ireland. The Gunpowder Mills Centre just outside the city of Cork is home to the new media hub that could attract major productions of the calibre of Camelot.

The Cork Film Centre and the Cork Screen Commission have set up the hub, which offers animation and video exhibition facilities, as well as a digital cinema designed for screening rushes.

“Facilities like this, with tangible benefits to filmmakers both from here and abroad, are exactly what we need and I applaud the councils and Film Centre for their hard work over many years in setting up the Screen Commission and getting these premises up and running.”

Ireland’s biggest productions tend to film in and around Dublin, but Cork has a growing industry and its picturesque landscapes are certainly a major draw.
