Donald Trump unveils Florida studio plan

Donald Trump wants to build a 250,000-foot film studio in Florida’s Miami-Dade County. The plans have surprised local authorities but a 180-day feasibility study has been approved. Trump Studio City could be built on county-owned land near the Homestead Air Reserve Base.

Plans presented to local authorities include around 20 acres of back-lot space, as well as production stages, boulevards, media centres and plazas. The land was previously earmarked to become an airport, but that’s never materialised, Miami Today reports.

Last year Florida drew major Hollywood shoot Rock of Ages, which doubled Miami for a 1980s Sunset Strip, and the state had a big success with family hit Dolphin Tale. But the state has a shortage of large-scale top-of-the-range studio space, so local politicians are getting behind Trump’s plan.
