Southern California entities partner to promote uniform location filming guidelines
Four separate organisations have partnered to promote uniform location filming guidelines throughout Southern California. The aim is to encourage the region’s 191 cities to adopt guidelines that are all broadly similar to make sure the film permitting process is as streamlined as possible.
FilmLA and the California Film Commission are involved with the partnership that wants local Governments to adopt a revised version of the state’s Model Film Ordinance and Best Practices. This sets out to boost location filming with measures like cutting the amount of advance notice productions need to provide for a location shoot and reducing permitting costs for productions that last more than one week.

“SCAG’s (Southern California Association of Governments) adoption of the Model Film Ordinance will help urge local communities and county Governments to work within a framework of policies that can create a region that is attractive to the industry.”
A recent FilmLA report revealed that TV location filming in Los Angeles fell by 15% in the second quarter of 2012, while feature production rose by nearly 10% and commercial production increased by almost 30%.
