Thailand Film Office reports dramatic rise in international location filming

International location filming for the first half of 2012 was nearly 20% above the figure for the whole of 2011, according to a report from the Thailand Film Office. The report cites gains for the US dollar against the Thai baht, as well as the film office’s intensive outreach at trade shows around the world.

The office stated: “The Thailand Film Office will conduct its first Inbound Roadshow (familiarisation tour) for international location scouts, Hollywood studio executives and major international producers and others later this year.”

International location filming in Thailand for the first half of 2012 was reportedly nearly 20% above the figure for the whole of 2011.

According to the report, Thailand benefitted from international production expenditure worth nearly USD47 million between January and May 2012, compared to just under USD40 million throughout the whole of 2011. Most of the international projects originated from Japan, with India and Europe in close second and third.
