Dublin stars in location shoot for big-budget Bollywood film with Salman Khan
Dublin is set to star in the big-budget Bollywood film Ek Tha Tiger (Once There Was A Tiger) when the movie opens in mid-August 2012. Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif star and it becomes the latest in a series of high-profile features to come to the city.
Ek Tha Tiger was supported by the Irish Film Board, Tourism Ireland and local producers Fantastic Films to secure the shoot for the Irish capital. The film spent nearly EUR2 million filming in places like Trinity College (above) and St Stephen’s Green in autumn 2011. It benefitted from a tax incentive worth nearly 30% of the production spend under the country’s Section 481 programme.
Aashish Singh of Yash Raj Films produced the film: “It was a pleasure to shoot in Dublin for Ek Tha Tiger. We were genuinely impressed by the Irish shooting crew as well as the support of the various agencies particularly the Irish Film Board and Trinity College. The cast and crew of Ek Tha Tiger had a wonderful time in Dublin.
The icing on the cake for us from a budget point of view was the incentive under Section 481, which helped us immensely in reducing a chunk of our expenditure in Ireland.

The film is expected to be one of Bollywood’s biggest hits of the year and could be a big boost for regional film tourism in Ireland too. Dublin’s in a strong position at the moment. The city recently hosted Steven Soderbergh’s action movie Haywire and the BBC’s period drama Ripper Street is doubling Clancy Quays for Victorian London.
