Annual AICP survey shows upsurge in US commercials filming on location
The majority of live-action US commercials filmed on location in California in 2011. Findings in the new annual survey from the Association of Independent Commercial Producers (AICP) reveal that 76% of US commercials filmed on location, the highest ratio since 2008.
Nearly 90% of US commercials filmed domestically and California locations remained far and away the most popular despite a slight dip in its market share from 2010 figures. More commercial productions are choosing to film in places like New York, Illinois and the American south-west.
We are seeing a continued upswing in production, which underscores that content for various media outlets continues to be a pressing need for clients.
Matt Miller, AICP
Matt Miller is President and Chief Executive Officer of the AICP: “The results of the study are compelling. We are seeing a continued upswing in production, which underscores that content for various media outlets continues to be a pressing need for clients. AICP member companies continue to see the positive opportunities in the economy of a growing industry."
Only 12% of commercials filmed internationally, which is the lowest figure in the survey’s ten-year history. Tax incentives have also grown in significance, with nearly 30% of commercials considering them a major factor in location filming decisions, marking a 4% increase on 2010.
