Lebanon minister reacts angrily to Homeland’s portrayal of Beirut

Lebanon’s Tourism Minister has reacted angrily over the portrayal of Beirut in TV thriller Homeland. The production filmed on location in Israel, doubling for the Lebanese capital, but Minister Faddy Abboud has said his capital is nothing like the on-screen depiction.

The minister spoke to Associated Press: “It showed Hamra Street [in Beirut] with militia roaming in it. This does not reflect reality. It was not filmed in Beirut and does not portray the real image of Beirut.”

Abboud is threatening a lawsuit against the Homeland producers. The show is based in North Carolina but a small unit filmed scenes in Israel for the second season, doubling for both Lebanon and Iran. Tender Productions serviced the team when they filmed in locations including Tel Aviv.
