New report suggests New York is the big filming incentive jobs winner
A new report suggests New York is the big winner in the US as a result of the filming incentive changes in recent years. Los Angeles has lost more than 16,000 film industry jobs and its national job-share has fallen by nearly 10% since 2004.
Figures from the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation show job creation in New York, Georgia and Louisiana.
The study said: “California is at a competitive disadvantage because other states have made a concerted effort to create an attractive environment for film and television production.”
Los Angeles is most popular for studio-based multi-camera comedies and it got a high-profile boost recently when Ben Affleck used Los Angeles locations to double for Iran in Argo. Drama TV shows that rely more on location filming have been heading to other states that offer better incentive deals.
