New York City update: Location filming allowed in less affected areas

As New York’s recovery from Storm Sandy continues, location filming is now being allowed “on a case-by-case basis” in parts of the city that were less affected. Permitting was completely halted for several days last week as Sandy caused widespread flooding and power outages.

The Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting in New York City said: “The City’s first priority right now is helping all New Yorkers recover in the aftermath of the storm. As the City continues to get back on its feet, we are encouraging productions to film in those areas throughout the five boroughs that were not as badly affected by the storm.”

Parts of the city like Staten Island, City Island and Coney Island remain off-limits for the moment. Permitting requests for locations below Manhattan’s 14th Street – the part of the city that suffered from the worst power outages - will be individually considered.
