Los Angeles targets TV location filming boost by waiving permit fees
Los Angeles has targeted a boost in TV location filming by waiving permit fees for pilots and shows shooting their first season. FilmLA describes the news as a good move towards more extensive changes.
"This sends a message to the industry that we do want them to stay here," FilmLA President Paul Audley told the LA Daily News: "The next step is for the city to work with Sacramento about getting tax incentives for the industry."
“There is no question that film and television are the underpinnings of the Los Angeles economy,” Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Koretz told the outlet: “There is no question that runaway productions threaten our economy. We have to do everything we can to offer incentives to film and television.”
Los Angeles studios are still the number one choice for multi-camera TV comedies in the US. However, TV dramas are more often following competitive location filming incentives to other parts of the country.
