Northern Ireland ministers celebrate new Game of Thrones series with HBO

Ministers from Northern Ireland joined cable channel HBO in the US to celebrate the new series of Game of Thrones, which is based in Belfast’s Titanic Studios facility. First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness also pitched for more productions.

Northern Ireland will continue to build on its reputation across the world as an excellent location to invest,” said Robinson: “Northern Ireland Screen, through its funding support from Invest NI, has provided HBO with assistance of GBP6.05million under the Northern Ireland Screen Fund to secure the pilot episode and the first two series of this award-winning medieval fantasy drama.”

Game of Thrones has been an enormous benefit for Northern Ireland’s production industry. As much as GBP65 million has been fed into the local economy in direct spending and the growth of a talented crew pool has drawn additional shoots like The Wipers Times.
