New TV drama Low Winter Sun gets filming incentive on location in Detroit

New TV crime drama Low Winter Sun has been awarded a filming incentive of USD7.5 million to film on location in Detroit, Michigan. The majority of the crew will be hired locally, adding to local production expenses that are expected to feed millions into the Metro Detroit region.

“They’ve chosen to shoot in Detroit and they’ve chosen to build their office in Detroit,” Michigan Production Alliance Director Mark Adler told Deadline Detroit: “They’ve got a stage built there. There’s not a small cost of building that stage. They’re putting money into building a police precinct.”

Filming for the pilot took place in Detroit in late 2012 and the show now has a nine-episode first season order from cable network AMC. Michigan has also secured extensive location filming for Transformers 4, which has been awarded a USD20 million incentive payment.
