Legendary East makes co-production filming deal with China Film Co

Legendary East, producer of films including the Dark Knight trilogy, has made a co-production deal with China Film Co, the country’s largest producer and distributor. Signed in Beijing, the agreement means the two companies will co-produce films for both Chinese and international release.

“We truly value the opportunity to work with China Film Co, a leader in the vital Chinese motion picture marketplace,” said Legendary’s founder and CEO Thomas Tull: “We look forward to combining our very complementary strengths to serve the global entertainment market.”

“We believe that through strong collaboration between CFGC (China Film Group Corporation) and Legendary East, we will be able to make films that are more appealing to filmgoers, creating new genres that, through the magic of film, bring greater variety to audiences around the world,” added China Film Group Chairman Han Sanping.

Having co-production status in China is a good way for Hollywood productions to get around the country’s tight restrictions on the number of international movies shown to Chinese audiences. Michael Bay’s Transformers 4 will be filming partly on location in China following a co-production agreement with China Movie Channel and Jiaflix Enterprises.
