Pinewood Studios appeals against expansion plan development refusal

Pinewood Studios has appealed against a decision to refuse planning permission for its expansion plan. Local authority South Bucks District Council rejected the GBP200 million Pinewood Studios Development Framework earlier this month after staunch local opposition.

“In relation to this scheme the government has clarified its policy of support for the screen-based industries,” said Pinewood Shepperton Chief Executive Ivan Dunleavy: “The proposals have received overwhelming support from leading global figures and companies in the creative industries, business groups, national and local businesses and members of the local community."

“We expect a decision to be taken by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government by the end of the year," Dunleavy added.

The expansion plan has been put together over several years and would involve the development of 100,000 square metres of new facilities including studios and streetscapes. Dunleavy described the need for expansion as “pressing” if the UK’s production industry is to remain globally competitive.
