Minnesota boosts location filming incentive fund to target mid-size features
Minnesota in the northern US has boosted its location filming incentive fund to USD10 million for the next two years. The state will also increase its filming rebate to a maximum of 25% through its so-called Snowbate Production Incentive, all in a bid to target midsize feature films.
“We’ve got a great secondary acting pool and crews second only to Chicago,” Senator Dick Cohen told the Minneapolis Star Tribune: “We’ve got seasons, if you want that. And the Twin Cities area (Minneapolis and state capital St Paul) is easy to get around, with lakes and farms only 30 minutes away.”
The boosted film fund could help Minnesota stand out from its regional neighbours. Wisconsin is the only adjacent state to offer a filming incentive programme, but it’s worth less than a million dollars.
