Tom Hanks involved with miniseries Olive Kitteridge filming in Massachusetts

Tom Hanks is an executive producer on new HBO miniseries Olive Kitteridge, which begins filming this week on Massachusett’s North Shore. The four-part series is based on a collection of stories by author Elizabeth Strout following the Maine-based family of protagonist Olive Kitteridge.

“We welcome HBO and (production company) Playtone to Massachusetts,” says Massachusetts Film Office director Lisa Strout, “[We] are so pleased to host such a prestigious project with such extraordinary talent.”

Massachusetts offers a 25% filming incentive and in 2011 made ten dollars in local production expenditure from every dollar issued as a tax credit, according to the Motion Picture Association of America.

State authorities intend to operate a full-time production industry with the imminent launch of New England Studios, which will offer four 18,000-square-foot sound stages in Devens near Boston. The new facility is scheduled to open later this month.
