Batman Vs Superman to film early footage on location in Los Angeles

Zack Snyder’s upcoming superhero follow-up – tentatively referred to as Batman Vs Superman – will film early footage on location in Los Angeles this weekend. Scenes will be shot at halftime during an American football game at East Los Angeles College (ELAC) Weingart stadium.

“Our visibility among the film community is higher than a lot of schools and I have to give a lot of credit,” explained ELAC’s College event and Venue Coordinator Ernest Burnett to the college’s Campus News: “The experiences of the people that have come and shot here are very good. Because students know the deal now, like they notice the production truck and then move on to class, it’s more common.”

Part of the stadium will be dressed for an American football game between Gotham City University and Metropolis State University. Collectibles will be given out and prize draws held throughout the evening to further incentivise ELAC students to take part as extras.

Sports venues are frequently used by big-budget film productions for crowd scenes as they offer an easier way to get large groups of people in one place. Christopher Nolan opted for a greater degree of control when he brought in 12,000 extras to Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field American football stadium (above) for a key sequence in The Dark Knight Rises.

Stadiums can also be a useful audio source, which Peter Jackson revealed when he enlisted the help of a stadium crowd to provide mass battle cries for use in his Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Detroit has been confirmed as one of the main filming locations for Batman Vs Superman.
